Welcome Message from Peter Coe Verbica

Welcome Message from Peter Coe Verbica

Dear CCR Members, Chapters, Officers, Board Members and Friends:

This is the first in a series of expected updates I will provide to our CCR team. Feel free to send me news that you would like included in future reports.

Communication and Teamwork

As your President, I would like to thank you for your continued support this year; we have had two stellar Board meetings with valued speakers, including the Hon. Jim Brulte, our CRP Chairman, Hon. Assemblyman Vince Fong (R-District 34), Gubernatorial candidate John Cox, Economist and U.S. Congressional Candidate, Sean Flynn, and many others.

We continue to communicate our message that CCR, chartered by the CRP, helps identify, bring forward and endorse STATEWIDE candidates through our candidates’ endorsement convention.  Stay tuned for the next one coming up in the Spring of 2018.

If you are a chapter president or CCR member through one of our California chapters, be sure to keep us informed as to the best way that we can reach you, especially via email.  Please visit this link to provide current contact information. Thank you for letting us know what is happening with your chapter.  Thank you, also, to those who have followed CCR on social media.

You will find that our message to CCR members continues to be that, despite our diversity of ideas, California Republicans are strongest when we work together as a team.

California Congress of Republicans (“CCR”) Leaps Forward!

CCR leaps forward to push a powerful Republican platform and build new chapters, including the soon-to-be debuted Orange County Congress of Republicans Chapter!

Hon. Anna Bryson will serve as the Orange County Chapter’s President and Hon. Bill Evers will serve as the Vice-President, selecting notable speakers.  Ms. Bryson served as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Capistrano Unified School District for eight years; Capistrano is the eighth largest school district in the State; she also served as President of the Orange County Federation of Republican Women; Co-Chair for the Bush-Cheney Reelection effort, helping to produce the highest voter turn-out for any county nationwide; Woman of the Year for the 73rd Assembly District by Assemblywoman Pat Bates; Worker of the Year for the Orange County Federation of Republican Women; Assistant Treasurer for the Orange County Republican Party; and, is the only woman to every have been Board Chair of Budget and Expenditures for the CRP.

Hon. Bill Evers brings a wealth of experience to the organization as well; he served as Assistant Secretary of Education and was in charge of schools in Iraq on behalf of President George W. Bush.  He also serves as a Research Fellow at the prestigious Hoover Institution; oversaw the education policy plan for President-elect Donald Trump; and has published in many publications, including the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, LA Times, and Orange County Register.

Identifying, Reaching out and Endorsing Statewide Political Candidates

A number of extraordinarily qualified CCR Chapter members are stepping forward to run for statewide political offices.  CCR appreciates the “good fight” ALL Republican candidates make to succeed in our State.  More information on this important topic will be released as CCR approaches its candidate endorsement convention in the Spring of 2018.

SPARC Speakers

Congratulations to the South Peninsula Area Republican Coalition (SPARC) for garnering extraordinary speakers this past year, including Gubernatorial candidates Travis Allen and John Cox, Secretary George Shultz, Hon. Tom Campbell, CISCO’s John Chambers, State Assemblywoman Catharine Baker (R-District 16), and many others.  The ever-popular SPARC picnic at the Morgan Manor was well-attended thanks to the hard work of the SPARC Board and President Timur Engin.

Palo Alto Republican Women Federation (PARWF)

Speaking before the PARWF at the University Club in Palo Alto was a distinct pleasure.  Efforts are underway to grow the organization and prepare it for the next generation, as Silicon Valley marches forward.  Speaker-coordinator, Gini Kimsey, was the epitome of grace and hospitality.

Hemet San Jacinto Congress Chapter

Yours truly looks forward to helping officiate the December meeting of the Hemet Chapter, led by President Robin Lowe.  Her Chapter is hosting Ruth Weiss in October to speak about the Election Integrity Project.

Republicans of River City (Sacramento County) – CCR’s Founding Chapter

President Carl Burton (former CCR President) reports good things happening with the new citizens’ ceremonies and his Chapter.  His Chapter also reaches out with booths at county fairs, senior citizen health fairs, farmers’ markets and community festivals.  He looks forward to trading great ideas and comparing notes in Anaheim.  You will also see him at events in neighboring counties, including Yuba, Yolo and Amador.  Carl also puts out a regular listing of Republican events in the Central Valley area.

Tribute to Fred Hildebrand

The CCR family lost one of our founding members on September 22nd. Fred Hildebrand will always be remembered as a stalwart Republican who had the best interests of the party at heart. In a tribute to his friend and fellow River City Republican, Chair Carl Burton said, “Fred and his wife Patricia devoted many hours to our party and Republican candidates. He was a staunch worker. Fred and Patty were married for over 60 years and are remembered as a fabulous couple who attended many political events together throughout Northern California. Patricia was an administrative law judge who read the verdict in the Patty Hearst trial.”

A Celebration of Life will take place on December 23, which we believe was Fred’s birthday. We will post more details on this site as they become available.

Republican Club of Ocean Hills (San Diego Chapter)

President Barbara Hazlett (San Diego Chapter) reports that Summer Stephan, the San Diego County District Attorney, will be the upcoming keynote speaker on Oct. 18, 2017 at the Broken Yoke Café, 12 Noon lunch; speaker talk begins at 1:15 pm.  Ms. Stephan’s talk will be on “Public Safety Priorities for San Diego County.”
