Let’s Celebrate Meritocracy

Meritocracy is the principle of rewarding individuals based on their ability and effort, rather than privilege or favoritism in any form. It serves as a cornerstone for the success of schools, society and nations. By accepting and embracing meritocracy, we cultivate excellence, fairness, and motivation, driving both personal and collective progress.

In schools, meritocracy ensures that students are recognized for their talent and hard work, rather than their background or connections. This motivates them to strive for personal growth, skills development, and to achieve higher educational standards. It instills in them the belief that they will be judged solely on their talent and hard work. Such an environment fosters perseverance and self-reliance, preparing students to excel in competitive careers and contribute meaningfully to society.

At a societal level, meritocracy reduces inequality by enabling individuals to advance based on their capabilities. Everyone gets a fair opportunity, and those who are more capable receive the rewards. It builds trust in institutions by valuing contributions over privilege and discourages corruption, partiality and nepotism. A merit-based system inspires people to reach their potential, creating a more efficient workforce and driving economic growth.

Countries that prioritize merit thrive in innovation, governance, and economic development. When leadership positions are filled by the most competent individuals, decision-making and efficiency improve remarkably. Meritocratic systems ensure that opportunities are distributed fairly, enabling talented individuals to shape a nation’s future.

Promoting meritocracy instills confidence in individuals and creates a culture where success is achievable through effort and ability, empowering individuals while benefiting society as a whole. By celebrating meritocracy, we pave the way for a fairer and more prosperous future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed based on their true potential.

This invocation will begin on land, but because we are in California, will then transition to the ocean.  

From the onset, let me apologize for my Anglican inclinations and the profoundest appreciation for each column, buttress and steppingstone which comprise the Temple of Western Civilization.  For I am an unequivocal admirer of every piece of this masonry.  I feel the collective weight of this edifice, as if I am the ground beneath it.  It compresses all of us with its glorious and vast enormity.

Abraham Lincoln advises in one of his speeches, “Every word is so closely noted that it will not do to make trivial ones.”  Before proceeding, if we apply this regimen, I suppose there exists no greater prayer than to simply ask: ‘May all that is good and positive in the universe be channeled through us.’  Let us be emissaries of the Divine; let us be ambassadors to that Awesome Presence which infuses both the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Ideally, as Republicans, we humbly serve as guardians at the gates of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”  The California Congress of Republicans, at its best, is a protector, not just of our Constitution, but also of those Natural Laws espoused by our Country’s founders.  Monarchs, tyrants and theologians are no longer the sole ambassadors to the Great Architect of the Universe.  Each of us carries a golden passkey to opportunity; to accountability; to ownership.

In our quest for freedom, mercy, justice, and prudence, let us walk wisely and with confidence.  While we are passionate and empowered, I also believe that we are deliberate.  While we hold fast to our core beliefs, we balance the lesser equities to chart a truer, more reasoned course.  We offer a larger tent because though we are strong, we appreciate and revere restraint.   

An invocation is a call to a Higher Order.  One ideal code of conduct is proposed to us in Philippians, Chapter 4, verse 8; attributed to the Apostle Paul while he was in a Roman prison, circa 60-62 AD, his concluding wish for his friends and followers reads as follows:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Honorable colleagues, if you were sailors, I would wish you ‘fair winds and following seas.’  Perhaps we can think of this convention as the beginning of an noteworthy journey, and if such, I believe that it is perfectly appropriate for me to wish each of you, ‘Godspeed.’

A Hand-Hewn Letter to Citizens of the Free World

Thank you!  Thank you!  Chapters, members and friends of the California Congress of Republicans (“CCR”), thank you! We could end our message here, because really, our primary message is to reiterate our unbridled appreciation.

Now, if you are familiar with our noble work, you know that CCR is a guardian at the gates of Western Civilization.  We are a 501(c)(4), a non-profit organization which operates exclusively to promote social welfare.

Before we begin, we could ask you a question.  What is the biggest difference between Republicans and Democrats?  Republicans sign their checks on the front, and democrats sign on the back.  We are the payers.  Democrats are the takers.

And, if you are wondering, how do you confuse a Liberal, you do not. They are born that way.  Our primary goal is to bring common sense to the ignorant, so that as they grow older and wiser, they will realize with assurance who is their friend and who is their enemy.

The words herein are board and batten of a barn still under construction; as such, it is a barn constructed with rough but reliable wood.  It is unfinished carpentry, and it may leave you with a few splinters.  But know that the timbers are solid.  The joists are square, and the trusses are true.  The clerestory windows invite the light.

For those who hate Trump, we have a simple truth: if you hate Trump, you are really going to hate Communism.  As Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. acknowledges, today’s Democrat party is not the party of his famous uncle, John F. Kennedy.  It is not the party of Harry Truman.  It is a party placing a dark shadow over the First Amendment.  It is a party looking to silence and intimidate.

We understand the nuance of what being “unburdened by the past” really means.  It is code-speak for Marxism.  Communism is an indelible stain upon the history of humanity; it is a scourge responsible for killing more than 100 million people.  How ironic that Leftists cloak themselves in the assurance that they are the saviors of democracy.

George Orwell warned us of such propaganda which replaces up with down and good with vile.  As Ayn Rand illuminates,

“There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end:
communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism – by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.”
